ABOUT US

Building Bridges was founded in 2020 by Bethany Tsiaras, a Virginia Tech student in the Human Development major. She developed this program as a way to connect with older adults in the community she had been working with prior to COVID. But whom she was no longer able to due to restrictions.

This free program is dedicated to connecting older adults with students so that they can socialize during a period where it can be difficult or unsafe to otherwise. We run twice a week, occurring Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. EST. This programs is offered during the Fall and Spring semesters of the Virginia Tech school year.

CONVERSATION

One of the founding reasons for Building Bridges was to help maintain social opportunities for older adults in our community. Therefore, it is at the core of our program to bring conversation and socialization out and provide two generations that might not speak otherwise a unique opportunity.

ACTIVITIES & GAMES

By far our most popular programs involve playing beloved games that everyone can recognize or easily catch on to. Our most popular games include games of Jeopardy and Crosswords, which highlight the educational nature that underlies this program. Our games and activities are hardly limited to these two and we are always open to trying out anything that our participants might be interested in.
